Dance Quotations: Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and High Heels

“After all, Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels.”

Have you ever wondered where this famous quotation originated from and how it came about?

Surprisingly, this came up during a the the Democratic National Convention address in 1988 by Ann Richards, the Texas State Treasurer of the time. Without going into politics and gender equality, this is perhaps one of the most quoted quotations that lady dancers love to quote.
