Music Collections: Contemporary Swing Band, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Who are you covering today?

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (BBVD), modern day big band style swing revival in the 21st century.

What’s the deal?

Finding commercial success in the mid-90s in the swing genre through retro swing revival and the movie Swingers, BBVD is no stranger to having music frequently played on radio stations. The beauty of BBVD is that they have a loyal fan following due to their approachability through holding post show meet and greet sessions, which has led them to various new opportunities and playing alongside a few big names in the likes of Dancing With The Stars and Superbowl XXXIII.

What’s the music like?

If you’re into war time style swing, you’ll most certainly enjoy BBVD. Taking elements from the 40s and 50s swing, the simple lyrics and catchy tunes make it easy to sing along to any song.

Why should I add this to my collection?

As with big band type of music, the drums and trumpets combinations  get your heart and feet pumping, leaving you a strong desire to jump and glide across the dance floor. Always a popular favourite amongst the swing and Lindy Hop crowds, the easy to follow upbeat tempo is certain to make one want to don a fedora hat and zoot suit and swing it.
