Who are you covering today?
Marc Anthony, the modern day King of Salsa.
What’s the deal?
One of the top selling tropical salsa artists of modern times, Marc Anthony’s name frequently graces the top Latin charts. Several times Grammy and Billboard award winner, ranging from modern salsa songs to his reinterpretation of classics, he is one of the most versatile artists catered to the general taste.
What’s the music like?
Drawing inspiration from legends such as Tito Puente and Hector Lavoe, it is of no surprise that his music is geared towards the more “authentic” salsa voice as his music stays true to the typical tropical sounds. Rarely does he ever add synthetic or electronica to his music, hence you rarely get the “pop” feel you might hear from many of today’s artists. This is particularly seen when he sings his rendition of Hector Lavoe’s El Cantante (The Singer) and Aguanile for the movie El Cantante that’s based on the legend’s life, essentially making these classics popular once again. Updating traditional salsa sounds to appeal to the modern audience with his heart and soul, you can feel the ultimate Latin rhythm that makes you want to get out there and dance.
Why should I add this to my collection?
Also a party favourite for modern Latin music, music DJs definitely at least have a few of Marc Anthony’s tracks in their music collection. Clean, classy and typically wonderfully upbeat, it makes for easy listening for the crowd.
Mostly Salsa but he also has a few fantastic Cha Cha and Rumba tracks.
